Piriformis Syndrome
The piriformis muscle is a small flat muscle situated inside the buttock partly at the back of the hip joint, this muscle is what rotates your leg outwards.
Piriformis syndrome is when the muscle becomes tight and puts pressure on the sciatic nerve causing pain, tingling and numbness in the buttock.
The symptoms of piriformis syndrome include pain in the buttocks that may continue down the leg.
The most common cause of piriformis syndrome is other muscles being tight and not working properly, therefore putting more strain on the piriformis muscle.

Stretching and strengthening exercises will be discussed with you by your physiotherapist.
