Disc Prolapse
Disc prolapse also known as a slipped disc is most common in the lower back, it occurs when the outer part of your disc ruptures and a gel like substance is pushed out, the pain experienced is caused when the disc puts pressure on the nerve or spinal cord.
These factors can weaken the disc tissue and cause a slip disc to occur:
Lifting objects incorrectly/repetitive actions
Being overweight
Smoking
Having a job that involves sitting for long periods of time
The route taken for recovering from a slipped disc will be going to see your physiotherapist or osteopath, they will give you an exercise and stretching programme.
To prevent this condition occurring:
Take part in regular exercise, core stability and flexibility, warming up and cooling down properly.
Make sure when lifting objects from the floor, bend your knees and do not fully bend your back.
Keep a good posture when sitting and standing
Sleep on a mattress that supports your spines natural curves.
